2011 saw 137 food poisoning deaths in China

Over 8,300 people suffered from food poisoning in 2011 in China, of which 137 died, the health ministry said.

The figures were based on four quarterly reports posted by the ministry on its website, China Daily reported Friday.

The number of food poisoning cases rose by 13 percent year-on-year, while the number of deaths dropped by 26 percent.
