No one likes a leaking roof. It defends and protects you from rain, snow, wind, sunlight, and heat. Your ambitions can run sky-high, but first, you need a roof overhead.
As the roof is always fighting against environmental forces, it gradually ages. Of course, you can repair your roof if it is not damaged entirely, but at times it is better to replace your roof entirely. If you live in Oklahoma, Texas, or Florida, it is essential to have your roof inspected professionally.
Below are some cases when you should consider calling a professional roofer:
1. Your roof has aged
Roofs are built of different materials, so you cannot tell exactly when to replace them. But, on average, a roof lasts 30 years. So start checking your roof when they are close to 20 years old. Metal roofs can last as much as 50 years, while asphalt shingle roofs last 20 years.
2. Check your attic
You might think that you need to check the condition of your room from the outside. However, that is not the case, take a flashlight with you and enter your attic. If you see light beams entering your attic, it signals that you may need a new roof.
3. The roof is sagging
If your roof is sagging and is about to buckle on its own weight. It is time for roof replacement before it damages other parts of the home. In such a case, you must act fast.
4. The roof is leaking
Check your attic to see if your roof is leaking after heavy rain. If you find your attic flooded, contact a roofing professional immediately.
5. Shingles are not in good condition
If multiple shingles on your roof are cracked, brittle, or missing, it is wise to replace your roof rather than repairing.
6. Shingles are curled
Curled shingles cannot drain the rainwater properly and this can damage your roof fast. So in case, your roof shingles are cupped, think about getting a new roof.
7. Ceilings or walls show water damage
Most of the time, the water damaging your ceilings and walls is coming through the roof. Check your roof to see its condition.
8. The roof is rotting
Wooden and asphalt roofs are prone to rotting. So, check your roof from the outside and look for rotten tiles and mold build-up. The rotting roof is a sign that you need a new roof.
9. Gutters are clogged
This is one of the easiest ways to know the condition of your roof. If you find shingle pieces clogging your gutter, it means your roof is not in good shape. Use this as a clue and inspect your roof properly.
10. Neighboring houses are getting new roofs
Same types of roofs in similar conditions age similarly. If your neighbors are getting new roofs, there is a chance that you might need a new roof too. However, if you have maintained your roof regularly, your roof should last longer.
