Remote working practices have become increasingly popular over the last few years, especially with the pandemic. Most businesses now offer a flexible approach to working practices so employees can choose to split their time between work and home. Working from home helps to restore the work-life balance. Instead of commuting for hours every day, employees can spend time with their families or running errands.
To reap the benefits of remote work, you need to look after yourself and maintain a proper work routine. Here are a few ways you can keep yourself safe and well when working from home.
Physical health
In a recent survey, The National Accident Helpline found that most people don't have a proper working space at home, and nearly half have suffered an injury while at home. You need to invest in an ergonomic desk chair to support your back and posture. A comfortable chair can make your working day much more enjoyable. Just make sure to prioritise the comfort over the appearance of the chair. You can add pretty details to your workspace with a lovely lamp and stationery.
Cyber security
You need to keep yourself safe online. Your devices will have access to company data and software, making you all the more vulnerable to a cyber-attack. Install antivirus software to protect your system and your company software. You should almost make sure your system and programmes are up to date. Regular updates improve programmes security and make sure your system is running optimally. If you ignore these updates, you can put your system at risk of a cyber breach. Educate yourself on phishing scams and how to avoid them - for example, avoid opening any suspicious emails to attachments in your inbox.
Mental health
You need to develop a good working routine. Try to find a designated workspace at home and avoid working in bed or on the couch. If you can choose your own working hours, find the time of day when you are most productive. You may spend the morning relaxing and work later in the evening, or vice versa.
A morning routine can set you up for a great working day. You could have a coffee, work out, have some breakfast and then sit down for work. Try to get out of the house every day for fresh air and a change of scenery. It can be very isolating to work from home.
Keep yourself safe at home and look after your mental and physical health.
